Life has been throwing me lots of curve balls recently.  The latest of which has challenged my ability to stick to my vow not to purchase anything new for 365 days (expect obviously food and essentials for baby).

The curve ball this time?  A little accident in the form of turning the baby’s microwave bottle steriliser into molten plastic by forgetting to put water in the bottom.  I think the photo attached speaks for itself.

So I now have a unusable steriliser, three size 2 teats that stink of burnt plastic and a microwave with a cracked glass plate, burnt back & roof.

The bottle steriliser situation can be solved by going old school and boiling the bottles on the stove top.  Although history is not on my side as I have previously done this with my first child and forgotten about them for an hour or two destroying the pot and turning the bottles into a molten puddle.  But I have no other option

The teats I’ve thrown out and replaced with size 3 ones that were lying around and the baby has quickly gotten used to them.

But the microwave is a little harder as my husband is adamant that we buy a new one.  I’d like to buy second-hand so at present we’re at an impasse.

What do you think?  Any ideas on how to resolve this?

An update! The impasse has been broken, the microwave cleaned and I just have to find a replacement glass turntable somewhere. A friend recommended freecycle.org so I will try that out. And through the mum network I have secured a 2nd hand microwave steriliser so happy days.

great news! I’m such a lover of second hand! Since going to India and seeing the rivers running red with dye from clothes, I am on a no new clothes year this year – and once decided – I have suddenly realised i actually have so many clothes i definitely don’t need anymore – and if I do – you gotta love a scout around in Vinnies heh! – the other benefit of ‘no new clothes’ is no time wasted shopping!
