About Me!
Who am I? Well I’m miss average with two kids (a baby & one in her first year of school), a husband, a mortgage and a fairly comfortable inner-city existence in Sydney.
Whilst working hard in my advertising career, in the other aspects of life, I’ve adopted a path of least resistance – taking the easy option or the one that provides instant gratification.
Now on maternity leave I’ve had an opportunity to take stock, re-assess and evaluate myself and my decisions in life. Amongst a plethora of things I’d like to change three things stood out:
- I needed to curb my instinct to spend – something painfully clear living on one income
- I needed to think more about the consequences of my consumer actions
- I needed to provide a better example to my children – the eldest who has become an advocate for minimising our environmental footprint
So with that in mind I decided to jump head first into change and for one year challenge myself to be a better role model, think before I buy and maybe learn a few things along the way.
With any challenge you need an overarching guideline and I decided mine will be DON’T BUY NEW (with the exception of food!). That means no new clothes – swap, by 2nd hand, make – but no handing over that credit card – no exceptions – not even for the super cute baby outfit (gulp). Or if something breaks – no throwing out and buying a new one – fix or do without.
I am hoping that my committing to my intentions in a blog and getting support from people I will end my year with a little lighter footprint on the world and a slightly less lean wallet!
I’d love to hear from you so please comment on my blog or send me an email (lisa.hosking@iinet.net.au) Happy reading
