Today marks the day that I will start my sustainable experiment. 365 days of attempting to lighten my rather large environmental footprint and adopting a sustainable mantra. It won’t be easy!
As the poster child for what not to do, I’ve got my work cut out for me.
My wall of shame for just the last 2 days includes:
- On Wednesday running the gas heater from when I got up at 7 to bed at 10 – it was cold. Yes I know Sydney cold for some is considered mild (in the depths of winter we get down to an average max of 16.2celsius/46.4farenheit) but it was bone chilling to me.
- Washing up the dishes with the tap running. No I don’t use the plug. And yes I know I am wasting a lot of water. But the concept of washing dishes in a bowlful of greasy, dirty water for me seems icky and counterproductive.
- Using 12 disposable nappies (babies go through a lot of nappies – around 6-8 a day!) and around 1 packet of disposable wipes
- Leaving most of the lights on in the house. Whoops just realised I have at the moment the bathroom, lounge room, bedroom, dining area and kitchen area lights on. Better rectify…
Not a great rap sheet so far.
But as my school report cards used to say … Lisa would do well if she applied herself more. So from now on I will apply myself more.
Is there anyone out there who is like me? Some dirty environmental laundry to hang out? Let me know, after all it is better to confess and do better next time than not making amends.
